When shopping for most anything, the best way to get a great deal on the product you want is to comparison shop. When looking for a water filter compare brands and models for the right product at a price you can afford. The world of water filters can be confusing for the uninformed. It seems there are so many different kinds, how do you know which kind to choose? One way is by researching the subject and learning which kinds of filters are used for which applications.

For example, if you get your water from a well, there is a very complex process to go through. Your water must be tested by either your county health department or an accredited water testing professional to see what needs to be done. From there, you will need to have a whole-house filter installed that cleans the water coming from your well to your faucets. Some people with well water also use faucet mount filters for extra protection against contaminants. There are a variety of problems that well water can have, including being too hard, too full of iron or too full of gritty sediment just to name a few issues.

If your water does not come from a well, the filtration fix is much cheaper. A faucet mount system fits right on your faucet and filters water as it runs through. This is usually adequate for the average household. There are countertop filtration systems that sit on the counter and hook up to the sink faucet as well, it really just depends on what look you prefer. If you have the need to purify lots of water in your household an under the sink model can handle the job. No matter which type of filtration system you choose make sure you know when to replace the filters.

When it is time to change your water filter, compare the prices from different stores and online. In some cases there may be generic filters that fit name brand filtration systems. Usually however it is best to go with the manufacturer's recommended replacement filters. Although some replacement filters can be a bit expensive, you can't put a price on clean drinking water. Not only that, but you only need to change them every so often, it's not like you're constantly buying new filters. Even so, comparing prices from different stores can save you a few dollars.
